Based on an official announcement by Dhaka Tribune.
Public health experts have called for prioritizing high-quality community-based health services in remote islands to reduce maternal and child mortality rates across Bangladesh.
The experts emphasized that engaging midwives and health workers in isolated regions directly addresses the healthcare challenges faced by expectant mothers and infants. Strengthening midwifery education and services aligns with Bangladesh's National Policy for Midwives 2018 and supports progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 3, which targets ensuring good health and well-being for all populations.
These recommendations emerged during a workshop on maternal and child healthcare held on March 25 at a Dhaka hotel, organized by Concern Worldwide. The event brought together government officials, including Additional Director General (Administration) of the Health Care Directorate Ahmadul Kabir, alongside representatives from the Swedish Embassy, British High Commission, and Swedish Postcode Foundation to discuss strategies for improving health service accessibility and sustainability across the country.
