Based on an official announcement by Dhaka Tribune.
The Media Freedom Coalition has condemned attacks on journalists, editors, and media houses in Bangladesh, characterizing such violence and intimidation as unacceptable assaults on press freedom and public access to information.
Established in 2019, the coalition operates as a partnership-based organization across over 50 countries on six continents to safeguard press freedom domestically and internationally. Its diplomatic network in Bangladesh released the statement on Friday, with signatories including Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. The United States, though a member, did not sign the statement.
The coalition urged swift and impartial investigation to hold those responsible accountable and called for comprehensive safety measures protecting all media professionals. "Journalists must be able to carry out their work without fear. Protecting them is essential to uphold the rule of law, democratic values, and an open, informed society," the statement read.
