Joint forces detained Md. Shamsuzzaman alias Dablu, 50, during a special operation in Jibannagar Upazila, Chuadanga district on January 12 based on intelligence regarding illegal firearms possession.
The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the operation resulted in the recovery of one 9mm pistol, one magazine, and four rounds of ammunition from a pharmacy shop adjacent to Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex.
The detainee fell ill and lost consciousness following the operation. Medical staff at Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex declared him dead at approximately 12:25am on January 13. ISPR described the incident as unexpected and regrettable. The camp commander and all military personnel involved in the operation have been withdrawn, and a high-level investigation committee has been formed to determine the exact cause of death. Appropriate legal action under military law will be taken against those found responsible following the investigation.
