Independent University Bangladesh Concludes International Conference on Media and Culture

IUB's Department of Media and Communication hosted a two-day international conference featuring 36 research presentations and keynotes from global scholars.

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) concluded a two-day international conference titled "The Nation & Its Imaginations," organised by the Department of Media and Communication under the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.

The conference brought together academics, researchers, students and practitioners from Bangladesh and abroad to examine contemporary media and cultural issues. Prof. Craig Batty from the University of Adelaide delivered the opening keynote on April 9, focusing on creative practice and research, while Prof. Daniel W. Lund addressed media, audience perception and cognitive dissonance on the second day.

The event featured 36 research paper presentations across four parallel sessions covering digital economy, media globalisation, gender representation, youth identity, folk culture, film, urban subcultures and political communication. Three panel discussions examined technology and creative industries, cultural sector changes, and the future of Bangladeshi cinema. The programme also included a workshop on creative practice research and a screening of the film "Delupi (2025)."
