High commissioners and ambassadors from six Southeast Asian nations visited the Meghna Industrial Economic Zone (MIEZ) in Sonargaon, Narayanganj on April 11, 2026, to assess investment opportunities in Bangladesh's manufacturing sector.
The delegation included Hj Haris bin Othman (High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam), Mohd Shuhada Othman (High Commissioner of Malaysia), Kyaw Soe Moe (Ambassador of Myanmar), Nina Cainglet (Ambassador of the Philippines), Mitchel Lee (Chargé d'Affaires of Singapore), and Suphawadee Wongsawasdi (Minister Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission of Thailand). Mostafa Kamal, Chairman and Managing Director of Meghna Group of Industries (MGI), hosted the delegation alongside Taif Bin Yousuf, Senior Executive Director of MGI.
The visiting diplomats expressed satisfaction with MIEZ's facilities and infrastructure, built to international standards. They pledged to communicate investment opportunities to business communities in their respective countries. Kamal stated that MGI's economic zones operate at full capacity with streamlined processes enabling foreign investors to transition from setup to production without delay.
