Department of Environment Launches Plastic Waste Management Initiative in Char Fasson

Integrated clean-up campaign and stakeholder discussion on sustainable plastic use held in Char Fasson Upazila with 500+ participants.

The Department of Environment, with technical support from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and funding from the Government of Norway, organized an integrated clean-up campaign and discussion on sustainable plastic use in Char Fasson Upazila on April 2, 2026. The programme was held at the Upazila Parishad auditorium.

The initiative brought together over 500 volunteers, including students, Rover Scouts, BNCC members, Red Crescent volunteers, BD Clean members, and representatives from the Youth Network Forum. A dedicated discussion session addressed environmental protection, plastic pollution, and waste management practices, with speakers emphasizing the importance of public awareness, coordinated efforts, and community participation in reducing plastic consumption.

The event was presided over by Nurun Nahar, Director General (Acting) of the Department of Environment, as chief guest. Other attendees included Muhammad Muzahidul Islam (Divisional Director, Barishal), Abdullah Al Mamun (Project Director), Dilruba Akter (Deputy Director), and S. M. Arafat (National Expert, UNIDO Bangladesh), among other government officials. The programme was chaired by Md. Mizanur Rahman, Deputy Director of the Local Government Division.
