British Council Joins UNESCO Global Education Initiatives

British Council becomes member of UNESCO's Global Education Coalition and International Task Force on Teachers for Education 2030.

Based on an official announcement by The Daily Star.

The British Council has joined UNESCO's Global Education Coalition and the International Task Force on Teachers for Education 2030, strengthening global efforts to advance quality education and teacher development worldwide.

Both initiatives prioritise education recovery, equity and improving teaching systems globally. UNESCO established the Global Education Coalition in 2020 to address educational disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The coalition now focuses on advancing Sustainable Development Goal 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities. The coalition comprises more than 200 partners from governments, multilateral organisations, civil society and the private sector.

The British Council will contribute expertise in teacher development, English language education and inclusive learning through its membership. The organisation has also joined the International Task Force on Teachers for Education 2030, a global alliance addressing teacher shortages and improving teaching quality. Stephen Forbes, Country Director Bangladesh at the British Council, stated that Bangladesh has made significant progress in expanding educational access, though quality and equity remain national priorities. The British Council's participation in UNESCO's initiatives strengthens its capacity to support education development in Bangladesh and globally.
